Services by Optima

In addition to MedX spinal rehabilitation, our clinic provides physical therapy evaluations and treatment of extremity dysfunction including acute, chronic, and post-surgical conditions.

Our MedX program is specifically designed for spine pain syndromes. Our area of expertise is treatment of neck and back disorders. We are able to isolate and test joint systems to find range of motion, strength, and endurance deficiencies. Our MedX program often succeeds even when other conservative physical therapy programs have failed. Other interventions including manual therapy techniques, Kinesiotaping, orthopedic bracing, progressive resistance exercises, functional training and therapeutic modalities are incorporated into our complete program. We also offer chiropractic services, acupuncture and massage therapy on site.

Therapeutic Modalities

Our therapists employ the use of various therapeutic modalities and treatments to compliment our rehabilitation program.

Kinesio Taping

Kinesio Taping is a specialized form of athletic taping used to relieve pain, promote healing of injured tissues and provide support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting range of motion.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a deep-penetrating modality with a machine used to treat many musculoskeletal conditions like sprains, strains or tendonitis. A wand or "sound head" is gently applied in circular motion to the skin near the site of injury. A small amount of water-based conducting gel is used to allow the ultrasound waves to be absorbed into the skin and muscles. Phonophoresis is ultrasound with medication.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS)

Neuromuscular electrical muscle stimulation is used to help decrease pain, tightness and muscle spasms and help your injured muscles "relearn" how to function properly. Electrodes are placed on the skin to contract and relax the target muscles.

Iontophoresis

Iontophoresis is a form of electrical stimulation used to deliver medication across the skin to inflamed or injured tissues. In our office, a steroid is used to decrease pain and swelling via an iontophoresis patch that is worn for 2.5 hours. The patient may experience a mild tingling sensation while wearing the patch.

Cervical Traction

Cervical traction acts to separate the joints and disc spaces in the neck, and can be an effective treatment of herniated discs, radiculopathy, and headaches. Cervical traction is administered lying supine (on your back) with your forehead strapped into the device. A pneumatic pump is used to provide the proper traction force to your neck.
