Services by Optima

In addition to MedX spinal rehabilitation, our clinic provides physical therapy evaluations and treatment of extremity dysfunction including acute, chronic, and post-surgical conditions.

Our MedX program is specifically designed for spine pain syndromes. Our area of expertise is treatment of neck and back disorders. We are able to isolate and test joint systems to find range of motion, strength, and endurance deficiencies. Our MedX program often succeeds even when other conservative physical therapy programs have failed. Other interventions including manual therapy techniques, Kinesiotaping, orthopedic bracing, progressive resistance exercises, functional training and therapeutic modalities are incorporated into our complete program. We also offer chiropractic services, acupuncture and massage therapy on site.

Cancer Rehabilitation

Cancer patients often experience some degree of fatigue, pain, lymphedema, body image changes, depression and anxiety and a decline in normal physical activity and functional capacity, which can be significantly improved by moderate exercise. Research is increasingly showing the benefits of exercise for cancer patients, including:

  • • Decreases lean mass loss
  • • Decreases resting heart rate
  • • Improves cardiac output
  • • Increases muscular strength and endurance
  • • Increases removal of necrotic load
  • • Increases ventilation
  • • Improves appetite
  • • Improves blood counts
  • • Improves deposition of minerals to the bones
  • • Improves flexibility and range of motion
  • • Improves hormone regulation
  • • Improves metabolic efficiency
  • • Improves neuromotor activity
  • • Improves stroke volume, vasodilation, perfusion
  • • Promotes appropriate body composition
  • • Promotes growth factors
  • • Promotes oxygen consumption at higher than resting levels
  • • Promotes protein synthesis
  • • Promotes restful sleep

In order to individualize the prescriptive exercise intervention, a complete fitness assessment will be done to determine the patients status and goals. The fitness assessment includes measurements of:

  • • Body composition
  • • Cardiovascular endurance
  • • Flexibility
  • • Muscular strength and endurance
  • • Pulmonary function

Based upon the intake and physical and psychological assessment, our Physical Therapist and Cancer Exercise Specialist will develop a specialized, moderate exercise program for each cancer patient, using a whole body rehabilitation approach. Our goals will be to improve the function, strength, stability, and quality of life, while continually educating the patient towards an independent exercise program.
