Services by Optima

In addition to MedX spinal rehabilitation, our clinic provides physical therapy evaluations and treatment of extremity dysfunction including acute, chronic, and post-surgical conditions.

Our MedX program is specifically designed for spine pain syndromes. Our area of expertise is treatment of neck and back disorders. We are able to isolate and test joint systems to find range of motion, strength, and endurance deficiencies. Our MedX program often succeeds even when other conservative physical therapy programs have failed. Other interventions including manual therapy techniques, Kinesiotaping, orthopedic bracing, progressive resistance exercises, functional training and therapeutic modalities are incorporated into our complete program. We also offer chiropractic services, acupuncture and massage therapy on site.

Functional Capacity Evaluation

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a thorough and intensive evaluation of an injured worker or accident victim that focuses on physical tolerance and abilities related to strength, endurance, speed, flexibility and physical effort.
Testing usually lasts between four to six hours. The patient should wear the clothes they would wear to work. It is also recommended to bring bottled water and eat breakfast or lunch before they come for their appointment.

We utilize the Matheson System, which focuses on the core values of:

  • • Practicality
  • • Reliability
  • • Safety
  • • Utility
  • • Validity

A comprehensive interview reviewing all past and present medical history will be followed by physical assessment of any of the following as they apply to the occupation in question:

  • Bending, Climbing stairs, Crawling, Finger dexterity, Grip, Kneeling, Ladder use, Lifting, Overhead tasks
  • Pushing, Pulling, Range of motion, Sitting, Squatting, Standing, Stooping, Tool usage, Typing, Walking,

The findings from the Functional Capacity Evaluation allows the doctor to assess if the patient can return to work, and at what demand level they can work.
